Upcoming AACO Events

AACO strives to participate in a balance of community service and social activities!  The listing below includes events which are organized in whole or in part by AACO, or are events for which AACO will be participating as a group!

1) Almost Eden Garden Project
when: Saturday, May 10, 2008, 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

where: Palo Alto, CA
rsvp: Olivia , olivia@aaco-sf.org,

Want to help out feeding the poor and participate in a fun volunteer event in the outdoors? Please join us at the Almost Eden Garden Project for a few hours to help with light garden work. We will have the opportunity to plant tomatoes and peppers, transplant okra seedings, and prepare garden beds for the summer. If you have a green thumb and don't mind getting a little dirty, this is the volunteer event for you! An optional lunch will follow this event.

Bay Area food pantries struggle to provide nutritious food for the local homeless and low-income population. The Almost Eden Garden Project grows premium-quality organic produce for several local organizations that provide meals and services for homeless and low-income families -weekly deliveries are made to Urban Ministries in Palo Alto, Bread Of Life Ministries in East Palo Alto and to the South Palo Alto Food Closet.

2) See Jane Run Course Support
when: Saturday, May 31, 2008, 8:45 AM - 1:00 PM

where: Crown's State Beach
Alameda, CA
rsvp: Mabel , mabel@aaco-sf.org,

Spend your Saturday morning along the scenic Alameda Bay Trail, overlooking SF and the Bay Bridge to help out with the See Jane Run Half Marathon/5 K/Kids' Race. Over 1500 runners have already signed up for this race and a portion of the proceeds will go to Girls, Inc., a national nonprofit dedicated to inspiring all girls to "be strong, smart, and bold."

For this event, we'll be helping out with various course support tasks such as water stations, time taking, etc. along the finish line and kids course run. As a thank you to all volunteers, everyone will receive a race t-shirt and other goodies. Afterwards, we'll have an optional lunch get-together for volunteers to mingle and reminisce over their volunteering experience.

3) Mountain Play Ushering
when: Sunday, June 1, 2008, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM

where: Mt Tamalpais State Park
Mill Valley, CA
rsvp: Tsu-Hei , tsuhei@aaco-sf.org,
info:
http://www.mountainplay.org/

The Mountain Play Association's mission is to produce an annual, spectacular, outdoor theatrical experience that nurtures an appreciation of Mt. Tamalpais, involves and strengthens the community, and builds on decades of tradition. Similar to previous years, we will meet to ride the bus up the mountain and help out with a variety of volunteer positions (ushering, surveys, raffle sales, etc.) prior to the show.
